L'IBAP et ses partenaires scientifiques internationaux se sont engagés à en savoir plus sur l'écologie et les menaces pesant sur les tortues marines en Guinée-Bissau, et à communiquer les résultats de la recherche aux acteurs locaux, au grand public et aux décideurs.

Les études en cours de MARE - ISPA, de l'Université d'Exeter et de la Faculté des sciences de l'Université de Lisbonne portent sur le comportement migratoire des tortues marines, leurs origines et leur recrutement dans les zones côtières, la prévalence de la fibropapillomatose, les impacts du changement climatique sur les plages de nidification, les facteurs qui influencent les taux d’éclosion et les succès de nidification, entre autres.
